Interfacial instabilities and transport of mass and heat in two phase flows carrying Nanoparticles

Interfacial instabilities in the presence of a temperature gradient. Nanoink is depicted in red
Nanoparticle inks are carrier of ultra fine particles of matter, which exhibit a host of unusual thermophysical properties. They can be used to write small scale structures (such as line and dots) on flexible or rigid surfaces with application in microelectronic devices. In this project we investigate microdroplets of nanoinks, enclosed in a water bath. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) are used for the simulation of the fluids and the particle dynamics involved. Main focus of the work is the numerical investigation of interfacial phenomena such as Marangoni Instabilities in the presence of nanoparticles as well as the transfer of heat and mass over the interface.
